Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the tasty and mouth-watering Philly sandwiches for Pepperjax Grill's ad campaign, "How Do You Philly?" The photos were used for social media and print advertising and helped promote the delicious and authentic flavor combinations of Pepperjax's Philly sandwiches. I also had the pleasure to work with the incredible team at Bailey Lauerman, Not Pictured, Pepperjax and Film Crew on a 30 second Food Feature that was incredibly fun!

I had the incredible honor of photographing Actor/Comedian/Activist Daniel Franzese. Daniel is best known for his roles in director Larry Clark’s Bully and as Damian in Tina Fey’s 2004 feature film Mean Girls. Franzese is the creator of several live comedy shows including the 2011 rock opera Jersey Shoresical: A Frickin’ Rock Opera! and his one-man stand-up performance I’ve Never Really Made the Kind of Money to Become a Mess in 2013.

After coming out as gay in 2014, Franzese became more active in the fight for civil and human rights in the LGBTQ community; and through his portrayal of the HIV-positive character Eddie in the second season of the HBO series Looking, and its subsequent series finale television film, Looking: The Movie, he has become a well known AIDS activist in the United States. In 2015 he became an ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. (Wikipedia)

I had an incredible time photographing The Surety Hotel by Aparium's restaurant concept in Des Moines, Iowa. Working with the Aparium staff and models was a dream, and their passion for their craft was evident in every detail.

As a photographer, I focused on storytelling by playing with light and shadow to emphasize the time and place of this incredible location. Our goal was to create a moody and emotive vibe, using contrast to bring out the best in the lifestyle photos and long exposures to showcase the stunning exterior.

Land and Lore is offers organic skin products for men. Owner Mark Hasebroock and the Secret Penguin team were so fun to work with on this shoot. I built the set in house using plants from a local business called Mulhalls and Trees provided by Bench. The lighting approach was to shift the lighting as if you were passing slowly through the day. The styling inspiration came from the idea of walking through a forest near the coastline. As you ventured the light changes on the forest floor, soon sand is introduced as you move closer to the ocean.

This was an incredibly fun shoot to do with our friends at Coneflower Creamery in Omaha, Nebraska. We were inspired by food photos from the 1950’s and 60’s and had a really fun time playing with color, light, and shadows.

A Treasure Hunter’s Home Full of Simple Comforts

Three years ago, Nick Huff and his boyfriend opened a mid-century modern furniture store called Hutch in the heart of Omaha, NE. Their collection of local, new and old furniture and décor is thoughtfully curated by working with makers in the community and frequent vintage-hunting. Nick is a self-proclaimed, “chronic thrift store junkie” and enjoys the thrill of discovery. “We are the [fanatics] first in line at all the area estate sales.” His own home is full of objects that are handmade, vintage or family heirlooms. Nick loves identifying human connections and significance with the artifacts he finds for his store and with what he chooses to place in his home. “It is important for me to find things that tell a story. These items comfort me and make my home feel complete.” His decorative practice is to use objects with an original, historic reference and an adventurous approach to mixing various styles with texture and bursts of color. After owning his home for the past year, Nick welcomes pieces that offer comfort and a unique narrative that reflects his appreciation for storytelling through objects.

Nick spent six months to find and furnish his 1920s brick duplex in midtown, Omaha. The area is full of neighborhood charm, including a local farmer’s market and a few restaurants close by. Nick values the diversity and culture of the community he is a part of. “I often find myself chatting with my neighbors as I walk to and from work every day. There is something comforting in that.”

After the passing of his Grandpa, Nick visited Arizona to take care of the family home and was gifted an original Navajo bowl and tapestry from his Grandma’s best friend, Midge. “Over the years, she would often make and give my Grandma beautiful objects including tapestries, large pots and woven bowls. I always felt a special connection to what my Grandma received.” Nick was overwhelmed with emotion when Midge handed him the gifted items. “In that moment, my world stopped and I was very thankful.” With those gifts leaving a lasting impact on him, Nick wants each guest to feel this same sense of comfort and discovery when they are in his space. “This life is too short.
